2008 Industry progress report released

2008 Industry progress report released - Product Stewardship

October, 2009

The Vinyl Council of Australia is pleased to publish its annual report of the progress of the Australian PVC industry's Product Stewardship Program during 2008.

This voluntary program addresses environmental and health issues associated with the life cycle of PVC and PVC products and aims to diminish the environmental impacts of PVC over its life cycle.

Signatories to the Program address a series of commitments and set realistic time-frames for the delivery of key undertakings such as considering standards for importing and manufacturing of resin to end-of-life product recycling.

During 2008, specific progress was achieved under the Program:

- Pipe industry members phased out the use of lead stabilisers in pipes and fittings

- Medical waste recycling trial was launched

- VCM emissions from resin manufacturing were below the Commitment standard

- Life Cycle training was undertaken by two Signatories

The Report was assessed by an independent auditor and a verification statement about the Program has been included.
